How do you budget for a kitchen beyond the cabinet price?

Join the furniture order to the room, services and installation it needs. A complete Spanish kitchen budget assigns each connection and finishing task once and makes ordering decisions at the right time.

Describe a working kitchen

Make a product schedule alongside the measured room plan. List cabinets and internal fittings, visible end panels, plinths, handles, worktop, splashback, sink, tap, appliances and lighting. A showroom illustration may show optional elements absent from the order. Confirm which doors, drawer mechanisms and finishes the written specification actually buys.

Measure corners, columns, ceiling height, window openings and door swings. Check the space needed to open the fridge, dishwasher and oven and to remove them for repair. Identify where shut-off valves, sockets and service access will remain after installation. A beautiful cabinet run is incomplete if the dishwasher cannot be serviced without destroying its neighbour.

Give connections a named owner

For every appliance, record model, dimensions, required service, installer and commissioning responsibility. The furniture fitter may not include altering electrical circuits, extending water pipework or changing the drain. Ask the electrician to assess capacity and circuit arrangements under the applicable REBT provisions; the total appliance wattage is not a DIY wiring plan.

For cooking extraction, establish where air will go. DB-HS3 distinguishes general dwelling ventilation from cooking extraction. A recirculating hood filters some cooking emissions but is not, by itself, the independent extraction route described by that provision. Have the professional assess the existing system and applicability before moving the hob or connecting to a shared shaft.

Coordinate dimensions before non-returnable orders

Agree who performs the final measure and at what stage. The cabinet supplier needs the agreed finished wall positions; the worktop supplier may need the installed, level base units before templating. Check responsibility for cut-outs, joints, upstands, supports and the sink or hob supplied for templating. A drawing approved before plastering should not silently become the final manufacturing dimension.

Put decision dates in the programme: layout, appliance models, service positions, cabinet order, finished measure and worktop template. If one company supplies and another fits, identify who accepts each measurement. Get the cost and timing of storage, repeat delivery and return visits in writing. Do not quote a universal kitchen duration from one supplier’s lead time.

Define exactly what “final connections” includes: the example’s service alterations are separate rows and must not be invoiced again. The €600 outside allowance is not an official charge. Confirm the actual IVA treatment with AEAT’s conditions and the contractor before replacing the assumed 21%.

Resolve the small items that create missing scope

  • Worktop delivery, carrying route, lifting and protection of installed cabinets.
  • Sink, waste kit, tap, valves and any water-treatment equipment.
  • Hood duct, terminal, accessible filters and the route for replacement.
  • Splashback extent, sockets, edge trims, sealants and making good.
  • Appliance unpacking, fitting, testing and removal of packaging.
  • Final floor height, plinth adjustment and appliance withdrawal clearances.

Owner-supplied appliances should have their supply allowance removed from the contractor’s price without removing agreed installation. If the fitter charges a separate coordination or extra visit fee, have it stated before purchase. Keep the product invoice and delivery inspection with the project documents.

Compare the same final specification

Article 60 of consumer law requires clear pre-contract price information. Ask each bidder for quantities, named finishes, gross total, exclusions, price validity and the delivery/payment conditions. “Kitchen from €X” does not identify the number of cabinets, worktop material or installation boundary. A deposit is a payment against the agreed price, not an additional cost line.

Replacing a €3,000 net appliance allowance with a €3,600 net set increases the example by €600 net, or €726 at the assumed 21%. Using reserve leaves €1,694; maintaining the €2,420 reserve increases total funding to €27,946. Agree any extra installation work separately: the arithmetic assumes that the connections remain the same.

Do not order around an unresolved permission

Moving a kitchen can affect drainage, ventilation, shared services or the building exterior. Ask the relevant professional about the Madrid urban-planning route before approving manufacture. A community agreement and the municipal procedure answer different questions. Record any approved facade terminal or shared-service intervention precisely.

If the household stays in the flat, plan a temporary food-preparation area, safe access and the period without a sink or cooking equipment. Allocate its real costs separately. Keep water and electrical work with competent installers; a renovation guide should help you commission the work rather than teach you to improvise hazardous connections.

Check completion before closing the account

  1. Check cabinet fronts, clearances, fixings and the agreed internal fittings.
  2. Have the installers demonstrate appliance operation, shut-offs, drainage and extraction.
  3. Inspect worktop joints, cut-outs, splashback and making good against the specification.
  4. Collect manuals, invoices, installation records and required certificates.
  5. List damaged or missing items and the agreed completion dates in writing.

Record the accepted order, changes and actual payments together. Reno Pro can organise those records and project stages; it does not replace the supplier’s measurements or the installer’s technical assessment. The useful final total is the cost of an operational room, with each connection, delivery and return visit accounted for.

Sources, date and scope

Sources checked on 19 October 2026. Local procedures and examples concern the city of Madrid unless stated otherwise. IVA explanations concern the territory where that tax applies, rather than the separate tax systems of the Canary Islands, Ceuta or Melilla. Original worked calculations are teaching examples for the stated scope, not market averages or contractor offers.
